Help get SeaPath on the right path.

SEAPATH_QUICKSUBMIT

This time last year Generation Zero blew Auckland Council away with over 11,000 submissions in support of Skypath – the proposed walking and cycling path across the harbour bridge. They’d never seen anything like it before. It showed what we can do collectively if we put our energy together, and we now have a chance to connect Skypath up to the North Shore cycle network.

Right now Auckland Council is consulting on a project known as Seapath. It’s a 3 km shared path connecting Takapuna and the expanding North Shore cycle network to SkyPath. You can see the planned route in the picture below.

SEAPATH Route
The problem last time for Skypath was a small minority of voices came out early and opposed the project putting huge roadblocks in the way of moving Skypath forward quickly. This time we need to show that Seapath has the support of all Aucklanders very early on in the process.

As a cyclist, well just as an Aucklander really, I reckon easy access to the city by bike of on foot is a no-brainer. Generation Zero’s Quick Submission Form makes the process quick and easy. Have a read through the points they highlight and get clicking!

Great that we will get a seapath. but as shown in the photo its on the wrong side of the motorway ….will have the same problems as skypath ,cliffs have to be cut back peoples back yards will be removed,Pōhutukawa’s cut back and cut down Check it out on google maps Street view along the motorway ….The route shown is the nature path that forrest& bird wanted a few years ago ……….I could go on but this blog is not the place to do it and timing is not right .
Eastern side of the moterway is the answer,a path built Just like the new Westhaven cycle/ walkway very low eco impact, quick to build (pre fabed off site )It will be safe, flat ,direct ,easy to get to for all walkers ,Bikes and the disabled in wheel chairs, power chairs etc Not only will seapath be the missing link for walking &cycling commuting it will also be a destination ,a nice walk to look at the bay and city by day and night , wild life,(take photos of the birds
that live out of harms way on the shell banks and Islands ) The fight for seapath will be interesting ,its sad to say but the will be a fight ……

You’re quite right, on the waters’s edge would be preferable. I “presumed” getting access across the motorway at regular intervals was the problem.

Widen the Foot bridge,It will get you to the west side of the motorway ,there is only a small catchment of cyclest on the west side , Sylvan ave Exmouth rd Mc Breen ave Heath ave anyone further west would use the Northcote Safe Cycle route to Skypath its more direct .You can also get to Northcote Point from seapath under the motorway and onto Tennyson st .The Skypath & Seapath will be a commuter route first for people who want/need active transport option, all the rest is iceing on top
