Colourful Crowd

A Colourful Crowd

A glass of merlot in hand, surrounded by bicycles and beautiful women, I thought I’d died and gone to heaven. Guzzling fresh orange juice, surrounded by TimTams and cheesy combustibles, my eight year old daughter thought much the same. I think we can chalk-up Tuesday night’s Summer Fling as a raging success!

There was a slight hiccup during the welcoming speech as the Hurstmere Green lawn-sprinklers fired-up and stylishly dressed attendees scattered in all directions. That was pretty funny, broke the ice really, and was soon remedied with some artfully placed road-cones and a call to the council.

Soon the wine was flowing once more, the fashion rightly took centre stage, and people were enjoying each others company on a balmy Auckland evening.

When the fashion show was over I took the opportunity to check-out some of the funky bike accessories on display while my daughter rounded-up stray Tim Tams. There were plenty of cool bikes to ogle too; American-style cruisers, high-tech e-bikes, and my personal favourite, the sartorially elegant Tokyo Bike.

Julian from Nextbike was kept very busy tuning-up gears and brakes and as the chatter subsided and the sun faded wheels whirred into motion and we headed our separate ways.

The sight of North Shore streets filled with ladies on bikes was something to behold, Auckland was looking very grown-up for a couple of hours there.

Well done Frocks on Bikes for putting together a great event. Not too big, not too small, it was just right.

Antoine! You were there and I didn’t know! maybe I even spoke to you??? …. the elusive scribe of this wonderful blog site!

Yes it was a good evening, and pushed me into cycling to and from work (after months of procrastination!). I loved the electro bikes … enjoyed the opportunity to meet the man from Flux and try his wares.

Thanks Frokkies and thanks AT for getting us out there!
    Cheers, Natasha

Come on Natasha, up your game – I’m 6′ 5″ and was one of only three guys there!

Seriously though, my daughter had a great time, topped-off by scoring some blinky lights and a bell as we departed.

The ride in confirmed for me how dangerous that stretch of road is from Takapuna to Milford, it’s crying-out for a cycle-lane. I was not comfortable riding down there with an 8 year old, we used the footpath.

Nah really? …. I had 2 of the guys with me, plus there was the security dude in fluoro, the electro bike guy, Zane from AT, Martin the mechanic, ….. :o)

Agree about Milford to Taka main road – I now go across to Taharoto and the west of the hospital instead. Good cycle lanes there.

Thanks for keeping us up to date on cycle events – much appreciated.
