ChildFund’s Tree of Bikes Lighting Ceremony

November 19, 2014

A 7-metre tall Christmas Tree made from donated bikes? That sounds interesting.

In the developing-world bikes can make such a difference for children living in poverty. How’d you fancy a 15km walk to school? Yep, give me a bike ride any day – more time and energy available for hitting the books that way.

These particular bikes won’t be going off-shore. Once the festive season is over they’ll be wheeling their way to community groups here in New Zealand.

What: The Official Lighting Ceremony for ChildFund’s Tree of Bikes

Where: On Queens Wharf next to the Ferry Building, Quay Street, Auckland

When: Friday 28th November from 8pm  (rain date Saturday 29th November)

  • Watch with family and friends as pedal power is used to light the tree at sundown
  • Take a photo or selfie in front of New Zealand’s first-ever Christmas Tree made of bikes
  • Enjoy warming Christmas carols by the Greater Auckland Chorus
