Family Mountainbiking at Woodhill
I took my boys over to Woodhill Mountain Bike Park the first week of the school holidays, what great time we had. After a day’s rain the trails were perfect and although the carpark was all but full, you hardly saw a soul on the trails. The clean air fills your nostrils and lungs, the only sound your tyres rolling on pine-needles, it’s a rewarding couple of hours away from the hustle and bustle.
The cool thing about Woodhill is you don’t have to be super-fit or super-skilled to have good ride, and with a sand-base there’s rarely any mud. That makes it a great place for families and beginner off-roaders, but expert riders can get their thrills too.
Neither of my sons is keen on cycling, their bikes would get ridden four or five times a year (it’s like a knife in my heart), but get them out on easy-flowing singletrack like this and they lap it up.
My twelve-year-old decided he would have a go on some of the smaller jumps, he was a total natural. Before long he was spending more time in the air than on the ground and never crashed once. I’ve been mountainbiking twenty years, why can’t I do that? (It’s like a knife in my heart!)
We sat on the back of the car afterwards talking crap about the stuff we’d just ridden, scoffing lollies and guzzling soft-drink, a sugary reward for 15 km of fun. Can’t wait to do it again.
