Society of Three Speeds

Society of Three Speeds Pins

Any other three-speed aficionados out there? Fresh from the bicycle-laden streets of Portland, Oregon comes SOTS, a ‘worldwide’ society who’s aim is simply to appreciate the humble three-speed bicycle.
If you follow bicycle culture you probably associate Portland with the wackier side of the bicycle life; tall-bikes, bike-jousting, unicycle polo, Pedalpalooza and Zoobomb to name but a few. But like other hotbeds of bicycle culture the folks of Portland just like getting around town by bike, and a three-speed does a fine job of just that.
From their site:
Once the ultimate in human-powered transportation, the three speed bicycle has been sidelined by first the road bike or “ten-speed” and then the mountain-bike. The three-speed has been either disparaged or just forgotten about during the past 40 years or so.
But there’s nothing wrong with a three-speed bicycle!
We aim to provide the resources and inspiration for people to enjoy and ride three speed bicycles, whether vintage or modern.

Society of Three Speeds Welcome Pack

I’ve been riding a tiny British three-speed folder for a number of years and I love it to bits, so for the second time in as many weeks I’ve gone and joined a bike club!
The membership-pack above arrived bursting with stickers, pins and other hand-drawn goodness from the pen of Shawn Granton, all great fun and it didn’t break the bank.
As they say, “Three speeds is all you need”. A low gear for getting up hills, a middling for flat-land pootling and something stiffer for descending or speed-work.
