Kiara’s Angel Walk (+ Ride) 3rd March 2013
One of the most popular search-terms on my Bike Friendly North Shore blog is “Orewa cyclepath”. The correct name is “Te Ara Tahuna Estuary Cycleway and Walkway” but I suspect (like myself) most have trouble remembering the long-winded version, let-alone spelling it accurately! If you haven’t hauled the bike up to Orewa and given it a go you’re really missing out on something. The cycleway is especially fun for families with young children that are off training-wheels but not yet trusted around vehicles. Have a look through the photos on my last post to get a feel for the place.
Coming up on Sunday 3rd March is the second running of Kiara’s Angel Walk. This fundraiser utilises the Cycleway and finishes with a family-fun-day in Western Reserve, but a stone’s throw from Orewa Beach.
Despite the “WALK” misnomer, there is a cycling option and bikes get to start first so you shouldn’t have to weave around too many pedestrians. Have a look around the site, buy a ticket or two and support a worthy cause.
Here’s some blurb from the organisers:
Kiara’s Angel Walk is a yearly event held on Children’s Day to raise funds for the Child Cancer Foundation, Cure Kids & Kiara’s Angel Trust (pending) charities. It begins with a 2km or 7km walk or cycle along the Te Ara Tahuna estuary walkway in Orewa and culminates in a free family fun day held at the nearby Western Reserve. Everyone is invited to enjoy some fabulous free entertainment, children’s rides, food stalls, street performers, craft stalls, a fun carnival atmosphere and even a bike valet service. Grab your family, friends, workmates and join us for a great day out for all!
