Bike Spotting: Banned from the Boardwalk?

August 9, 2011

It’s beautifully balmy, I’m bombing my big beach-bike down the Browns Bay boardwalk and bammo, I’m busted. Bugger!

What’s the sense in that? I thought boardwalks and seaside promenades were made for such activities? Hope the council don’t actually enforce this one, seems like a nice place for families with young children to ride. They won’t be breaking no speed limits.

I say ban booze, baby-buggies, boogie-boards and bouncing beach-balls – there’s the real danger.

I agree! These signs have been up (and generally ignored) for years. Most kids frequenting the playground can’t read (the signs are mounted way too high for them anyway) and as long as everyone looks where they’re going, the boardwalk’s plenty wide enough. All I can think is that the apartments over the road would suffer from skateboard wheels clattering over all those sleepers, but the skate-park’s about 20m from your bike and they’ll be on that, surely?
