Bike Spotting: Penny’s Trailer

August 1, 2011

I took a double-take when I spotted this vision riding toward me. From the front it looked all the world like a cargo-trike but as Penny got closer I realized she had a trailer in tow. But this is no ordinary bike-trailer, it’s a one-off custom built by her father. How cool is that?

This is the type of bike-culture that gets me salivating. Normal folks getting around town by bike, wearing their day-to-day clothes and in this case hauling some kiwi-engineered cargo-capacity behind them. Thanks for the photo-op Penny, you made my day and I’ll try to get you in focus next time!

Yeah! Seeing women on bikes, people in plain clothes, bicycle commuting, and utility biking…all signs of a growing bike culture. One person out there doing it is an advertisement for the hundreds that see it…and hopefully want to take part.

You’re on the money Jeff. We need a lot more gals riding though, I’d guess they’re only 5% of the commuter numbers. Women are however well represented in road-riding and MTB down here.
