Bike Spotting: Book-Peddlers

May 24, 2011

Avanti commuter

I wasn’t the only library patron arriving by bike today. As I was unlocking my old clunker a chap rolled-in on this shiny black steed. One of the things that makes bicycling so practical in cities is that you can pull-up right outside your destination, parking is rarely an issue.

And what a great city bike this one is – mudguards, disc-brakes, a rack & pannier, and with big 700c wheels that roll faster over varied terrain than your typical 26″ mountainbike wheel.

A shame about that pathetic bike-rack. Come-on Takapuna Library, get with the program! I don’t want to bend a wheel or a back securing my precious.

As you can see the rear-wheel has been locked to the frame but there’s nothing stopping anyone simply lifting the bike up and walking away with it!
