View from the Sydney Bus-path

Sydney Cycle Commuter

He was wise to stay on the footpath.

Passing through Sydney last week I kept an eye out for cycling infrastructure (a habit I can’t shake), they spend a lot more than Auckland does after-all. I didn’t see any!

So although good work is being done, the Aussies, like us, have a long way to go. The main arterials connecting the airport to the city and in the outer suburbs heading North were particularly scary. Two lanes each direction where we would have one and a 60kph limit that everyone seemed to ignore. I assume local knowledge would have you riding on alternative routes with less traffic as these main roads looked like cycling death-traps to me.

I did however see plenty of utility cycling in the ritzy inner suburbs, but they were sharing the road with Ferraris and Rose Bay Tractors, not buses and semi-trailers.
