WARNING to Browns Bay Cyclists!

July 9, 2010

Cycling and Japanese Calligraphy are forbidden in this shrubbery on Bute Rd. Parking in the trees however is permitted for a maximum of one hour.

I can’t think where this sign is indicating that you can’t actually cycle. The supermarket carpark? The park that surrounds the library and leisure centre? The footpath? Baffling stuff.

I believe that short of swimming pools and railway tracks bikes should have a free run of the city. I will make every effort to avoid this shrubbery, but if running late with an overdue book, what’s a man to do?

You should check out some of the new train station upgrades. There are so many activities prohibited and so many signs alerting you to the restrictions, that it’s almost wall paper! Every 3m the signs are repeated – they obviously think that Aucklanders have the 3 second memory of a goldfish. It might almost be better to put up signs saying what you ARE allowed to do.

I don’t suppose anybody thought to go and look in other countries at some proper train stations that service thousands of people a day before they started experimenting with their ‘not allowed’ wallpaper – noooo, don’t be daft!
