East Coast Road Share with Care Update

June 24, 2010

Just like in grown-up countries. The traffic-island however, still needs some work.

I should really rename this blog “Bike Friendly East Coast Bays” as with family commitments and the “humid” weather we’ve been enjoying I’m not venturing too far from home on two wheels. I did notice however on last week’s commute an addition to my local Share with Care path that I wasn’t expecting – bicycle handrails. How very European – almost Copenhagenish! (Did I just invent that word?)

These rails are great as you can rest and compose your thoughts as you wait for a break in the traffic but you are ready to spring into action when a gap appears. Stainless steel would have been better and not get tatty so quickly but I suppose the bulldozer-yellow is a safety feature.

Good stuff North Shore Council, now about that traffic island…

Copenhagenish … I like it! Now we just have to spread this Copenhagenish thing across Auckland!
