Build it and they will come…

April 27, 2010

Nothing much to report this week as I’ve only been cycling to work and back but an interesting video on the Cycling in Auckland blog reminded me what the fight is all about.

Take the time to watch what 20 years of bicycle advocacy and community involvement has achieved in Boulder, Colorado. The film’s a bit of an infomercial and has a certain smug tone to it, but it’s well worth 13 minutes of your time to catch a glimpse of what we could (and should) have in our neighbourhoods.

Boulder has a smaller population than the North Shore but their bicycle infrastructure will make you sick, sick with envy that is. With a network of bicycle paths like this people start using bikes for transport. I emphasize “people” because most bike commuters in Auckland are cyclists, not just ordinary folks riding to work or the shops because it’s easy and fast. To get more “people” using bikes for transport we’ve got to make it easy for them. Enjoy…

It’s only a real informercial if someone is doing it wrong: ;-)

Thanks, I’ll watch that when I’ve finished working-out on my Abdominizer.

… and thanks for letting me steal your links ;^)
