Becoming a Bike Commuter – The First Step

April 17, 2010

The thought of leaving the cosy confines of your nice warm car and hitting the streets on two wheels might sound a bit daunting, but it doesn’t have to be.

Like a lot things in life if you charge into them with a head full of preconceptions and no real experience you might come away disillusioned, and unnecessarily so. Remember that time you joined the gym, went five times in the first week and never went back?

Pick a nice fine weekend and do a trial-run first. That way you’ve got the route sorted-out and a good idea how long the trip will take. That’s half the stress removed right there because you can leave in plenty of time when you “go live” without racing the clock.

I started to ride to work just one day a week at first. Then one day became two, and pretty soon I was a full-time bike commuter. Habits are like that, they start small and build with no real effort, and bike commuting is an easy habit to build because it’s so much fun!

Thanks, I used to be an Art Director before poverty and a thirst for cheap fortified-wine drove me to the printing industry.

… and thank you for leaving some comments Su Yin, much appreciated. You appear to be the only person in the Southern Hemisphere reading this blog.
